FLESCH RESIDENCE

Perched on the edge of Lake Monona with distant views of the state capitol building and downtown Madison skyline, this once ordinary ranch style house underwent extensive renovation and expansions to take advantage of its great location and become a home with personality. Through collaboration with the client, consulting structural engineers and project contractors, major alterations to the structure and existing floor plan were possible, allowing for taller main level ceilings, new second floor living space, and enlarged windows capturing the nearby lake vistas. Larger spaces in the new main level open floor plan better suit the homeowner’s lifestyle in this summer residence, with sweeping lakefront decks and a new three-season room providing space to comfortably enjoy the outdoors and captive views of the Madison skyline. While maintaining the scale of the neighborhood at the street front, first impressions of this home were improved by opening the entry foyer to dramatic views of the lake beyond and connecting to the new second floor with a grand staircase. Throughout the interior, spaces are infused with daylight and recall nautical themes in painted bead board finishes and custom designed metal railings surrounding the decks and stairs.
